A gallery of artworks by British artist Chris Swain

Chris Swain is a UK-based artist and painter with over twenty-five years of practice. His work explores themes of memory, perception, and humanity’s impact on the natural world.

Swain’s current Anthropocene series focuses on the effect of human activity on wildlife. Working with mixed media, he uses a process he describes as “painting with paper,” collaging found images chosen for their colour, texture, and symbolic meaning, before integrating them into the surface with paint. Music plays an important role in his studio practice, influencing a layered, sampling-based approach to image making.

Many of Swain’s paintings begin with a remembered experience or emotional state, distilled over time into a single image. Each work attempts to capture something fleeting – preserving the essence of a moment, thought, or feeling before it disappears.
